Today, Cisco further enhanced its market leading MDS Storage Area Networking portfolio to provide high performance, versatile and affordable solutions for SMBs and Enterprise customers.
With a new high density 16Gb fabric switch, deployment options for FICON, Converged Ethernet Storage, Flash Array connectivity and enhanced SAN intelligence, the Cisco MDS 9396S is the industry’s most affordable 16Gb fabric switch. Delivering enterprise-class features, a pay as you grow (48 ports to 96 ports) option to meet unforeseen future needs and easy plug and play installation, the new enhancements signal Cisco’s ability to bring enterprise-class capabilities to SMBs.
In addition to the newly announced enhancements, the Cisco MDS portfolio also offers flexible, multi-protocol solutions for Fibre Channel, FICON, Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP), iSCSI, and converged networking with FCoE. Cisco also provides a complete end-to-end unified data center fabric that is powered by the same NX-OS operating system across its award-winning product line; Cisco MDS for storage networking, Cisco Nexus for data center Ethernet networking and Cisco UCS for compute.
As a long-time Cisco partner, QLogic, has supported Cisco's 16Gb Fibre Channel solutions since the May 2013 introduction of the Cisco MDS 9710 Multilayer Director switch and MDS 9250i MultiServices Switch. QLogic continues to power Cisco innovation with technologies designed into Cisco's ecosystem of data center products, including: UCS Servers, Nexus data center Ethernet networking switches and MDS Storage Area Networking switches. QLogic powered Cisco solutions meet the enterprise-class LAN and SAN connectivity demands of today's servers and storage environments, as well as provide a future-proof solution for the service-oriented, cloud-enabled data centers of tomorrow.
The QLogic FlexSuite product portfolio interoperates with Cisco Data Center Unified Fabric solutions to address new customer requirements for SANs by delivering a single platform for both Fibre Channel and FCoE. QLogic's award-winning, dual-personality 2600 and 8300 Series FlexSuite adapters leverage I/OFlex technology to function as 4/8/16Gb Fibre Channel adapters or as 10Gb Ethernet (10GbE) converged network adapters (CNAs). Together, Cisco and QLogic continue to deliver the performance and architectural flexibility that enable data centers to be more agile, cost-effective and reliable.
As data centers evolve, high-bandwidth, zero-downtime and multi-protocol storage networking solutions are needed to handle the growing requirements created by virtualization, cloud computing, flash and SSD technologies. The MDS 9396S represents a continued partnership between QLogic and Cisco's Storage Area Networking product line to address these needs.
